In the mathematics laboratory, a wide range of research topics from the broad spectrum of applied mathematics are covered: from financial mathematics and complex analysis to machine learning and robotics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One focus of application is on topics related to predictive maintenance. In this context, time series analyses of machine data are carried out in order to identify possible problems in the production process at an early stage. This was the subject of the successfully completed PRISMA research project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The laboratory also uses neural networks to solve image processing problems. In an application-oriented approach, it addresses optical defect recognition tasks that can be used for industrial quality assurance. In addition, the theoretical basis of these approaches is the subject of research, in particular the behaviour of the Adam optimiser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Robotics is also an important part of our research activities. In addition to investigations in the context of predictive maintenance, kinematic properties of different robot architectures are being researched, which are particularly used in new collaborative robots. This is a fundamental aspect of efficient and safe path planning and control. Another research interest is path planning in workspaces with obstacles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the laboratory, an industrial 6-axis robot (KUKA Agilus KR 6R700 sixx) and a collaborative 7-axis robot (KUKA LBR iiwa 7 R800) are available for this purpose. A temi robot is used for mobile and social robotics projects.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
