AI for Software Engineering Workshop

September 30th – October 1st, 2024, Würzburg

Exchange with international research groups at the intersection of AI, (empirical) software engineering and human-computer interaction

New perspectives for interdisciplinary and international collaborations

As a follow-up event of the delegation visit of Bavarian universities to Poland in 2023, the AI for Software Engineering Workshop and September 30th and October 1st, 2024 at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg brought together more than 70 practitioners and researchers from computer science and related disciplines to discuss how artificial intelligence and data science can help us to better understand and improve the engineering of complex software systems.

In 15 talks, experts gave insights into latest research on (1) applciations of Generative AI to support software developers, (2) AI-based prediction of software defects and AI-assisted issue handling as well as (3) the use of AI to understand and improve human and social aspects in software teams.

Existing research on those issues is often centered around a single discplinary perspective. The goal of this workshop was to open new perspectives for interdisciplinary and international collaborations and private-public partnership at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, (Empirical) Software Engineering, and Human-Computer Interaction.

The software engineering group led by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Mauerer at RCAI studies socio-technical aspects of software engineering by Mining Software Repositores (MSR) and was thrilled by the technical discussions on latest work with international experts.

Many thanks to Prof. Dr. Ingo Scholtes, the team from the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (CAIDAS) at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg and BAYHOST for the great organisation and opportunity!
